Blog Action Day – Every Mile Matters to End Hunger and Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day 2013 #BAD13 which brings together bloggers from different countries, interests and languages to blog about one important global topic on the same day.  The topic for this year is Human Rights which aligns perfectly with my passion for ending hunger and poverty.

Poverty and Hunger do not discriminate for they can possibly affect anyone and everyone — they do not recognize age, race/ethnicity, nor gender…. They do not say ooh look there is a female that needs to starve and/or experience poverty.  All that matters is that you are human and that places one in a negative situation that has trickles into other negative aspects such as depression, isolation, weight loss, and a defeatist attitude.

Let me reiterate this people do not ask or seek out poverty or hunger… it is placed upon people.  For example, right now the United States government has decided to cut SNAP (aka food stamp) benefits drastically so that money is directed to other areas deemed with higher priority.  For many people SNAP alleviates the stress of worrying about food on the table so reducing a family’s SNAP allowance enhances those family members going hungry.

So what can we do — there are various actions people can take to end poverty and hunger…but for me every mile matters.  As you know I use Charity Miles to raise money for the national organization Feeding America.  I might as well make my feet do something good while at the same exercising.  It does not take a lot of effort — just turn the app on and run.

Here is a parting image/quote to encourage you to take action and end hunger and poverty:
