Today is World Environment Day with this year’s theme being “Time for Nature”. What a perfect coincidence that it is also Food Waste Friday for biodiversity plays a strong role in the food we eat. Specifically, biodiversity ensures the provision of our nutrition, fertilization components, and work.
Taken from the World Environment Day guide – “Our demand for food and resources is driving deforestation, changing patterns of land use, and destroying natural habitats across the globe.“
Yet food waste is the 3rd largest contributor of carbon emissions. Reduction of our food waste would aid in nature preservation. Some individual action steps folks can take in reducing their food waste footprint are eating locally produced foods, composting, starting your own mini-garden, or incorporating more environmentally friendly foods in your diet. I encourage you to review the guide for additional actions.
